Dear Third District Resident,
While 2023 draws to a close, it is important to reflect upon the abundance of gratitude that this year has brought. Riverside County is the fourth most populous county in California and tenth in the United States; it is home to 2.5 million individuals, approximately 500,000 of which are within the Third District. To actively serve our residents, it requires over 40 various departments with 23,000+ employees.
Beyond our county departments, we also account for a multitude of organizations that help serve Riverside County residents in phenomenal ways. As this time of the year is typically characterized as the “giving season”, one of the most valuable things we can give is our time. Many of our organizations around the Third District have graciously given their time and talents this season. Partnerships with these organizations help bridge gaps and provide community members with much needed services. As your Riverside County Third District Supervisor, I would like to extend my gratitude to each individual who has served our residents, not only within the Third District, but across Riverside County. I thank you and commend you for your service.
Additionally, this season also places emphasis on spending meaningful time with loved ones. I am looking forward to celebrating the holidays with my family and wish the same for you and yours. I hope this season, along with the new year, bring you much peace and happiness.
From my family to yours, Happy Holidays! See you all in 2024.
Sincere regards,

National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
The month of December is a time where family and friends frequently get together to celebrate the holidays. Sadly, as festive seasonal activities increase so do alcohol-impaired driving crashes. The National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA) reports that December is the deadliest month for impaired driving. As motor vehicles are a leading cause of death and injury, it is important to keep in mind that many substances other than alcohol also impair driving.
Further research from the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration shows that raising awareness on prevention methods helps deter tragic and fatal accidents. We encourage you to communicate with family members and friends alike about the dangers of impaired driving and to always designate an unintoxicated driver when attending events this season.

Passing on the California State Association of Counties Presidency
In November, I had the honor of passing the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Presidency to San Luis Obispo Supervisor Bruce Gibson. Each year, this title is rotated between an urban, suburban, and rural county supervisor — ensuring that each county caucus has a seat at the statewide level.
Over the past year, I have represented Riverside County in this capacity and have shared the great work we are doing up and down the state. I’ve also ensured that Riverside County’s voice was heard in conversations surrounding homelessness, behavioral health funding, and judgeships by advocating directly with our lawmakers in Sacramento.
As the second fastest growing county in the nation, we have surely put ourselves on the map and the Southwest stands out in this population growth. It’s been an honor to serve the county — and the Third District — in this unique way.

Riverside University Health Systems’ Annual Festival of Trees Gala
A few weeks back, my team attended Riverside University Health System Foundation’s Annual Festival of Tree’s For the Love of a Child Gala. This long-standing tradition supports critical work at Riverside University Health System (RUHS). Specifically, it supports the Pediatric Unit, NICU, PICU, Child Abuse and Neglect Unit, and Pediatric Behavioral Health — critical pillars in providing care for our community’s youngest and most vulnerable individuals.
Together, we raised $564,000! Thank you to the Riverside University Health System Foundation (RUHSF) for upholding this annual tradition. The Third District team was honored to attend such a meaningful event with such astounding purpose.

Murrieta’s 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade
Last month, I participated in Murrieta’s 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade with my two grandsons. Shortly after, we headed over to Town Square Park to watch the unveiling of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. There, I presented a proclamation to the City of Murrieta and expressed my gratitude to them for making the Vietnam War Memorial Wall a reality; ensuring our veterans are seen, appreciated, and supported across the Third District and throughout Riverside County.

Third District Holiday Parades: Temecula and Menifee
On December 1st, my family and I had the privilege of participating in Santa’s Electric Light Parade hosted by the City of Temecula. We enjoyed a tremendous community turnout and much participation including that of our very own Sheriff’s Department. It was heartwarming experience to watch the community come together for the holiday season.
The next day, I spoke at the equally exciting and heartwarming City of Menifee Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade, which also garnered much community support. Our Southwest cities really know how to put on terrific events and I was honored to join in on the festivities!

Community Highlight: MilVet
This month, we are highlighting a very impactful organization in the thriving Third District.
MilVet is a charitable non-profit that is dedicated to connecting community members in need to local, low-cost, and free comprehensive resources. Through community outreach and by providing philanthropic programs, the non-profit actively enriches the lives of veterans, seniors, and families within the district. As their goal is to strengthen communities and improve the quality of life of all members through communal support, MilVet has successfully broken through barriers to improve community relations and in supporting our troops through high levels of impact.
Just this year, the organization has hosted a multitude of fundraising events gathering funds to support their philanthropic endeavors. Our office recently attended MilVet’s Toy Drive in partnership with Senator Kelly Seyarto’s office, which benefits their Holidays for Heroes Program for children of military families.
Thank you, MilVet, for all that you do to support our nation’s heroes and their families within our community. You are greatly appreciated in the Third District and throughout Riverside County.
