Final Three County Redistricting Maps Available Online

During the Nov. 16 board meeting, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors determined to advance three draft maps for continued consideration, including two from the redistricting technical committee and one from the community. The deadline for the board to adopt a final map is Dec. 15, according to California law.

Community members can view the final three redistricting maps online at www.RivCo.org, including high-resolution versions of the maps that provide additional community-level detail.

Residents can also provide in-person or virtual input during an upcoming public hearing on Dec. 7 during the regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meeting, which starts at 9:30 a.m. The time of the redistricting public hearing is subject to the board agenda.

The Board of Supervisors has reviewed and considered 37 total maps and held four prior public hearings on redistricting, including one in the evening. The fifth and final redistricting public hearing will be Dec. 7.

Redistricting ensures fair and equal representation on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to account for changes in population and communities of interest that share common social and economic factors.

Find more information online, including providing feedback and drawing draft maps, at www.RivCo.org, under Redistricting.

The Dec. 7 public hearing will also be available live and on-demand at RivCoTV.org.

Scams Target Senior Population, Part 6

Taken from CARE: When Trust is a Weapon, by the County of Riverside Department of Public Social Services

As the population of older adults increase in Riverside County, we see more and more scammers trying to trick this population. This article is part six of a series on fraud that targets older adults. This week’s article focuses on IRS Scams.

Have you ever received a call from the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) stating that you owe them money? Some scammers impersonate the IRS stating that there will be consequences if you don’t pay them immediately. They will ask for personal information or money to be wired to them. Some will ask for gift cards, because once you give a scammer the information on the back on the gift card, that money is gone and is almost impossible to trace. If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and do not give them any information!

The IRS will never call you or email you asking for immediate payment or personal information; they will mail you a notice if you owe the IRS money. If you are unsure whether you owe the IRS money, you can call the IRS directly at 800-829-1040 or check online at IRS.Gov

The Department of Treasury’s Inspector General for Tax Administration Unit (TIGTA) is actively investigating these fraudulent calls on behalf of the IRS. The TIGTA Agents (who are real Federal Agents) meet with the victims to get details on their case. For additional information on reporting fraudulent IRS calls, visit https://bit.ly/3cFCnbT.
