Moon Festival Returns to Heritage House!

These celebrations originated with the ancient tradition of honoring the moon in autumn for the harvest. The Moon Festival at Heritage House marks the importance of Chinese Americans in building Riverside’s citrus industry.

This FREE and family-friendly event is packed with:
- Performances by Gió Nam Múa Lân (Southern Wind Lion Dance, 南風醒獅團)
- Chinese calligraphy demonstrations by Riverside’s Hua Xia Chinese School
- Storytelling by Barbara Wong
- First-floor tours of Heritage House
- Moon viewing with the UC Riverside astronomy department and Astronomy Club
- Crafts and more!
- Mooncakes will be available for purchase in an assortment of flavors

Moon Cakes
 Moon cakes are small pastries with sweet or savory fillings enjoyed during Moon Festival (also known as Mid-Autumn Festival). Chinese moon cakes date back at least 1,000 years as celebratory confections, though their ingredients have changed. We’ll be selling the Cantonese style, which has been popular for about 100 years and traditionally features fillings like lotus seed paste, red bean paste, and salted duck egg yolks, whose roundness represents the moon. Moon cakes will be for sale for $4 each during the festival!
