Join us for a classic! Considered one of the original rom-coms, It Happened One Night (1934) was directed by Frank Capra. It follows the journey of a pampered socialite (Claudette Colbert) who escapes her father’s control and falls in love with a reporter (Clark Gable). Though set in the 1930s, the film echoes themes from the Heritage House exhibition First Comes Love, tracing how ideas of love and marriage evolved from Victorian assumptions to modern romance, and how the freedom to choose love still shapes relationships today.
