This week was the primary election, which included the Ward 1 City Council seat. Congrats to Phillip Falcone, who has the lead in the primary election. If the lead holds, he will be sworn in on April 9th, 2024. I will continue to work hard through my last day in office. It is such an honor to serve, and I look forward to working with the Councilmember-elect during this time of transition. You can see the election results in real-time here.

Councilmember Edwards joins Fara, Sarah, and Selina of the UCR Medical School for the 2024 UCR Health Symposium
Dear Neighbors,
Last month, I had the opportunity to speak at the Health Disparities Research Symposium at UCR's School of Medicine. I shared how the City is investing in our community (Blue Zones! Redesigning streets to encourage walking and biking! Street outreach to address homelessness! Spanish translation during Council meetings!)
This month, we're building upon this momentum by proposing two funds to support community resilience over the long-term: an Affordable Housing Trust Fund and a Nonprofit Resilience Fund. Both come before City Council on March 12th. Scroll to learn more and join the conversation!
Read on to see how we're honoring Women's History Month in Riverside, and get the scoop on important neighborhood meetings and exciting events.
As always, it is such an honor to serve,
P.S. Instead of office hours this month, please join us for two important meetings on the River District (3/14) and the 3rd St. Grade Separation on March 21st at 6 PM at Dales Senior Center.
Impact investing is a tool for nonprofit resilience. A proposed partnership with the Inland Empire Community Foundation would create a Riverside Nonprofit Resilience Fund to build support for our nonprofit sector in the long-term.
This fund would provide loans to local nonprofit organizations serving the City’s most vulnerable populations, including seniors, youth ages 0-5, and those living in low-income communities.
Tune into the March 12th City Council meeting to learn more. Read the report and the presentation here.

After passing the Housing & Homelessness Committee, the proposal for an Affordable Housing Trust Fund comes before the City Council on March 12th. Thanks to all those who weighed in to make this proposal even stronger.
By lending affordable housing developers much-needed financing through our own local funding stream, we'll create more housing while easing the financial burden on developers.
Listen to the discussion from February's Housing and Homelessness Committee, and read more in the report here.

Honoring Cesar Chavez
I recently had the opportunity to tour the new exhibit at the Civil Rights Institute with Sabrina Gonzalez, the Institute's Executive Director.
Through photographs chronicling the day-to-day activities of farmworkers, the Working Coachella exhibit at the Civil Rights Institute spotlights the Inland Empire's dynamic farmworker communities as well as the labor movement of the last 5 decades. This exhibit arrives just in time for Cesar Chavez's birthday, which is April 5th. Visit the Civil Rights Institute to get a glimpse yourself, and learn more about how you can celebrate Cesar Chavez's birthday in Downtown Riverside here.

Women's History Month
Riverside kicked off Women's History Month by raising the 19th Amendment Victory Flag. This month and always, we honor all women--especially those in our community who paved the way for us to lead today.
