Green Leadership Summit - One month ago today, the City of Riverside held its first ever Green Leadership Summit. This event brought together a diverse group of community members, each ready to take action in order to escalate sustainability efforts in Riverside. The purpose of the Summit was to start a discussion--one that would not only alert participants to the ideas, strategies, and efforts of others within the community, but also establish a foundation on which to build. - Riverside is working to keep the lines of communication open between community members interested in moving forward with new sustainability plans and activities. Notes and statistics gathered from the Summit are available to help you reconnect with the ideas and suggestions offered by participants. All of this information can also be found online at http://www.greenriverside.com/About-Green-Riverside-4/Community-Collaboration-363

Riverside, the only 4 time winner of world’s Top 21 Smart Cities

For the fourth year in a row, the City of Riverside has been chosen for a Smart21 Communities Award, which recognizes the top 21 tech-savvy cities worldwide. Riverside was one of only 6 U.S. cities to receive the recognition. Among other cities worldwide to share the award this year are: Barcelona, Spain; Frankfurt, Germany; Quebec City and Winnipeg in Canada; New Taipei City, Taiwan; and Queensland, Australia. “The Smart21 designation is a significant honor recognizing that Riverside is a world leader in innovation and municipal technologies,” said Mayor Ron Loveridge, the chair of the SmartRiverside board of directors. “That Riverside has been recognized four years running illustrates our commitment to ongoing innovation in technology.” The Smart21 designation, awarded by the Intelligent Community Forum, recognized Riverside for its commitment to broadband, Digital Inclusion, citywide innovation and its knowledge-economy. Riverside is one of the few communities in the world that offers free City wide WiFi and free Digital Inclusion (free training and refurbished PCs for low income households) through a non-profit. SmartRiverside is dedicated to attracting and retaining high-tech businesses for the city as well as educating residents of Riverside about the advantages of technology. Crosswalk Enforcement Results in 38 Citations Issued

The increase in traffic safety is an integral part of the department’s strategic plan.  An ongoing effort, to further this goal, is the deployment of plainclothes officers using various crosswalks and citing those drivers who violate the pedestrian right of way.

On March 7, 2012, in a combined effort, officers assigned to the North Neighborhood Policing Center and the Traffic Bureau conducted an enforcement action along Market Street.  In a two hour operation, thirty-eight citations were issued for 21950a CVC (Right of Way at Crosswalks).

Drivers are reminded to yield to all pedestrians in a designated crosswalk.
