Riverside Police Host Free Car Seat Clinic in Response to

New Child Restraint Law in California

Keeping Kids in Booster Seats!

Riverside, California – The Riverside Police Department is hosting a Free Child

Passenger Safety Clinic on January 24, 2012. Effective January 1, 2012, the

California child passenger restraint law was expanded to protect children up to 8

years of age or under 4’9”. Prior to the change, California’s law only protected

children up to 6 years of age or under 60 pounds. Now with the new law, older

children will be 60 percent safer in a booster seat then when they were using only

the seat belt. A booster seat allows the vehicle lap-shoulder belt to be properly

positioned across the strongest bones of the child’s body.

Certified Technicians from Automobile Club of Southern California, California

Highway Patrol, Inland Empire Safe Kids, Riverside County Injury Prevention

Services, and Riverside Police Department will check child restraints for proper

usage, proper fit for the child, and any recalls. Parents will be asked to assist with

the installation of their children’s restraints to insure that they will be able to secure

the child properly every time they ride. To make an appointment contact
