9/11 Day of Service

Join us on September 11th as we thank our First Responders on the 16th year anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. The City of Riverside, together with various organizations hosts an Annual Riverside Citywide 9/11 Day of Service to thank our First Responders for their commitment to our community.  The Opening Ceremony will be held on September 11th at Riverside City Hall.  The UCR Pipe Band will be performing at 8:30am and the official ceremony will begin at 9:11am.  The Closing Ceremony where all the volunteers of the day will be honored will be held that same evening at 6pm, La Sierra University. Flyer attached here with information on scheduled community clean-ups, blood drives and volunteering for smoke alarm installation.

Citizen Academy

The Riverside Police Department is accepting applications for Citizen Academy, which begins September 14, 2017, and continues through November 16, 2017.  Recruitment is now open through August 31, 2017.  Most sessions will be held in the Riverside Police Department’s Community Room located at 10540 Magnolia Avenue, Suite B, on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  This course is designed to give citizens an overview of the department's operational methods.  It will also provide insight as to how police personnel perform their duties.  All sessions are in a classroom setting and do not require any physical training. Update on Housing Element Rezoning Program

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, California state law requires all local governments to prepare a Housing Element to address their local housing needs and their share of the region’s need for new housing.  As part of the implementation of the Housing Element, local governments including the City of Riverside, are required to identify adequate sites for a range of housing. Here is some updated information as we continue to move forward with this process.
