A Message From Your Council Member…

Summer is here, but we continue to keep busy in Ward 6.

I invite you to join us for some upcoming meetings being held in the next few weeks.  On July 26th, Council Member Burnard and I will be co-hosting a meeting regarding the Housing Element Rezoning Program.  This meeting is scheduled to start at 6:30pm and will be held at the La Sierra Senior Center.

Additionally, we will be holding Ward 6 Community Meetings a few times a year, which will be launched by our first meeting on September 20th at 6pm, Home Front at Camp Anza (5797 Picker Street).  Please note the Camp Anza Officers’ Club is generally not open to the public, so this will also be a great opportunity to visit this historic site.

Book Con Amigos

Our Book Con Amigos team, which includes the Spanish Town Heritage Foundation and Assembly Member Sabrina Cervantes, is gearing up for this special event to be held again in Ward 6 on August 12 from 9am-11am at Bryant Park.  Please join us for this literacy event, which will feature booths with FREE reading resources, arts and crafts, activities and much more.  Once again, we will have various local authors reading books throughout the event. Thanks to our sponsors, we will also have backpack drawings for school aged children.

9/11 Day of Service

Day of ServiceSeptember 11, 2017 marks the 16th year anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. For the past two years, the City of Riverside, together with various organizations put together the 1st Annual Riverside Citywide 9/11 Day of Service to thank our First Responders for the commitment to our community.  Once again, we plan to serve meals to fire, police, deputy sheriffs and ambulance personnel.  Support our efforts by attending the public Opening Ceremony on Sunday, September 11th 9:11am, Riverside City Hall.  The UCR Pipe Band will play at 8:30am for guests prior to the official ceremony.  Remember to also join us for our public Closing Ceremony, which will be held on the west side of the City on September 11th at 6pm, La SierraLa Sierra University University. We will also be honoring our 9/11 Ground Zero Clean-up Personnel by asking residents to organize a clean-up in their neighborhood, school, or street.  Ask family, friends, and co-workers to volunteer with you for one hour during September 5-11. Be recognized – share your photos on social media www.RiversideCA.gov/SocialMedia and use the hashtag #Riverside911DayofService!  The Riverside Citywide 9/11 Day of Service is intended to bring together the community and honor those that provide service to our residents.
