A Day in the Park

On Saturday, May 20th we celebrated our inaugural A Day in the Park Event at La Sierra Park. The purpose of the event was to showcase the great recreational and volunteer opportunities that exist in our city and it was a chance for community organizations to share resources and information.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of our participants and attendees who made this event a success! We look forward to next year’s A Day in the Park Celebration!

Riverside Police Department Employees of the Year:

recognition

Please join me in congratulating Cory Camp as the Riverside Police Department’s Officer of the Year and Antoinette Alexander as the Department’s Civilian Employee of the Year.

Cory Camp has been working as the POP Officer in the West NPC and in addition to the many miscellaneous tasks required for that position has made a great number of felony arrests.  His exceptional work ethic has been noticed by many Riverside residents, community groups, businesses, and the Ward 6 and 7 council members.  Cory is an asset to the City of Riverside and commended for his great work in the West NPC.

Antoinette Alexander has been the Department’s Police Service Representative (PSR) for the western part of Riverside for the last 25 years to serve as a liaison between the Police Department and the community.  Antoinette facilitates the creation and maintenance of Neighborhood and Business Watch programs, attends various community events, partners with Alvord Schools for various youth or school events, provides information to the public or assists them in their inquiries, and does presentations on various safety issues.  She is a member of COPS & Clergy and has been recognized a number of times for exemplary service, including by the Latino Network.  Antoinette has worked for multiple Area Commanders but maintained a constant presence and relationship with many individuals, groups, schools, and businesses in the Arlanza, La Sierra and Riverwalk communities.  Antoinette is commended not just for the last year of work but for a career of community service to the City of Riverside.

Fireworks:

In preparation of the upcoming 4th of July celebration, I would like to take an opportunity to remind residents Fireworks are ILLEGAL in the City of Riverside. This year fines have increased to $1,000 dollars and additional expenses may be incurred if found in possession of fireworks.

I encourage residents to report any firework activity as it can assist our public safety officers to focus on particular areas.

Councilman Perry and I have worked to secure the La Sierra Park Firework show for this year and more.
