A Message From Your Council Member…

The City of Riverside welcomes the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB recently voted to relocate its motor vehicle and engine emissions testing and research facility from its current location in El Monte to an 18-acre site at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). This relocation represents a $366 million investment into the community and 400 highly-skilled jobs in the region, the proposed new facility is planned to open in 2020. We would like to thank all the partners involved in pursuit of this effort which include staff from the City of Riverside, UC Riverside, Riverside County, Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce and Senator Richard Roth’s Office.

Tamale Festival

The ever-growing Riverside Tamale Festival is once again upon us this April 16th. Spice up your Saturday with a variety of delicious flavors, family fun and entertainment at the Riverside Tamale Festival on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 11am-6pm, in downtown Riverside’s White Park. This year the Riverside Tamale Festival will host a community stage, non-profit booths, Kid Zone, local Latino artists, a Mercado with more than 50 food vendors and celebrity-judged contests. Presale Tickets: $5 for minimum donation individual or family of four (under 12 FREE with paid adult ticket). Proceeds from the Riverside Tamale Festival will be donated to La Placita. Riverside’s first La Placita de los Trujillos was a place for residents to come together to address the issues of the community, and a place to find resources. Kids Produce Market with Feeding America

Feeding America has continued their diligent commitment throughout the school year by providing nutritious fresh food to Arlanza Elementary School on a monthly basis. We are happy to share that Feeding America has awarded Arlanza Elementary School with a second year of providing 20,000 pounds of fresh produce to the school. I am very pleased to share that during my monthly visits of the food distribution students are happy to receive the fresh
Kids Produce Market With Feeding America produce and are excited to share the healthy food options with their families at home. This month we will be thanking Feeding America by volunteering a weekend along with AUSD Board Members and staff at the Feeding America Food pantry. And once again, we thank all the individuals that patriciate by volunteering at the monthly Kids Produce Market: the parent volunteers, the Arlanza Elementary School staff, volunteer students from Alvord High School, AUSD Nutritional staff, and student interns from California Baptist University.
