California SB 95 COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave

Good morning,

On March 19, 2021, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 95 (SB95) which provides supplemental paid sick leave (SPSL) to employees impacted by COVID-19. SB95 becomes effective today, March 29, 2021.  What you need to know:

California SB 95 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave

SB95 provides up to 80 hours of supplemental paid sick leave to employees who are unable to work or telework because of qualifying COVID-19 related reasons.  SPSL is retroactive to January 1, 2021 and runs through September 30, 2021 and is capped at $511 per day and $5110 total per employee.

All employees are eligible to receive the full allotment of California SB 95 Sick Leave. Please note, however, that any COVID related sick leave used from January 1, 2021 to March 28, 2021 will be deducted from the new SB 95 SPSL balance.
