Did you know that September is National Fall Prevention Month? It’s a time dedicated to raising awareness about the risks of falling and empowering older adults to take simple, effective steps to stay safe and independent. While falls are the leading cause of emergency department visits among older adults, they are preventable. The challenge is that many people don’t realize they’re at risk—until a fall happens to them.
This month, we challenge you to take action: implement fall prevention strategies into your daily routine, whether it’s practicing balance exercises, reviewing your home for tripping hazards, or staying physically active.
One great place to start? Visit your local senior center! September is also Senior Center Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to discover the many resources available to you. Senior centers are welcoming spaces where you can meet new people, stay socially connected, and participate in activities tailored to your needs.
This month, take the first step toward a healthier, safer, more connected life. Try out a senior center near you, stay active, and surround yourself with a supportive community. Your future self will thank you!
