Greetings,
This week I had the honor and privilege of participating in the opening ceremonies for the California State Sheriff's Association Annual Conference. It was held at the Everline Resort in Olympic Valley. The California State Sheriff’s Association (CSSA) was established in 1894 and is comprised of all 58 county sheriffs serving the citizens of California.
CSSA is a non-partisan association formed by sheriffs to improve the delivery of services and protection to the community. CSSA provides a consistent training forum that supports all facets of law enforcement operations throughout the State. This conference is crucial as it enables sheriffs to serve as a collective voice in advocating for the best public safety policies for our community and opposing those that would not be in our community’s best interest. It is an opportunity for the development and exchange of ideas, progressive concepts, and information. The goal is to work toward building safe and strong communities within their respective counties. Our quality of life in Placer County can be attributed to the brave men and women who serve to protect our residents and maintain law and order. They ensure Placer County is a great place to live, work and play.
I would like to commend Sheriff Woo and his staff for organizing a successful conference that provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, learning, and professional growth. In addition to fostering meaningful connections, the event also showcased the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe. It also brought an economic boost to the county, highlighting the positive impact of such initiatives on our community.
As always, your input and communication are vital to me. Representing the residents of my district effectively requires hearing directly from you. As such, I invite you to contact my office at 530-889-4010 to share your thoughts or concerns.
Anthony DeMattei

Placer County continues free rides for Sierra College students
Students from Sierra College will continue to be able to ride Placer County Transit for free for the next three years following a pilot program contract extension. The agreement will not require Placer County Transit to provide additional service hours and will not impact the standard operation costs.
In addition, the Board of Supervisors also approved an extension with Spare Labs Inc. for microtransit service technology for Placer County Transit. This technology is similar to other ride-share services where customers use a smartphone app to request a ride that will provide curb-to-curb service within a particular zone. Placer County partners with the City of Auburn and the City of Roseville with the co-branded app, GO South Placer.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors introduced an ordinance designating moderate, high and very-high fire hazard severity zones (FHSZ) in unincorporated areas in the county. Key impacts of the updated FHSZ designations include:
- Homeowners in very high FHSZ must meet stringent defensible space and home hardening standards.
- Property sellers are required to disclose FHSZ designations during real estate transactions.
- New construction and renovations in designated zones must comply with wildland-urban interface building codes.
