WATCH (45 mins): State of the County 2025

BG_SOTC-2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I wanted to share a few reflections from my recent “State of the County” address — it was an honor to present on behalf of the Placer County Board of Supervisors. There’s so much happening across the county, and I thought you might appreciate hearing about a few of the highlights.

A Vision for the Future – Placer 2050
We’ve kicked off the General Plan Update, which we’re calling Placer 2050. This plan will help shape the county’s growth over the next 25 years. It builds on the legacy of thoughtful planning that prioritized economic vitality, quality of life, and land conservation — and now it’s time to renew that vision with today’s voices.

Smart Growth and Housing
We’re making real progress on housing, especially in West Placer. Projects like Placer Vineyards and Placer One are bringing a range of homes, job centers, and community services. We’re also supporting workforce housing to help people like our teachers, medical assistants, and first responders live close to where they work.

Economic Development and Jobs
The new Placer Commerce Center and the arrival of Bosch — a $1.9 billion investment in semiconductor manufacturing — are huge wins. These projects will bring thousands of good-paying jobs and strengthen our local economy.

Education and Workforce Readiness
We’re building strong connections between education and employment, with efforts like the Sac State Placer campus, new public safety training centers, and programs to support careers in healthcare and tech. These investments help our young people find opportunities right here at home.

Addressing Homelessness with Compassion and Accountability
We’ve added permanent supportive housing and low-barrier shelters across the county. While our homeless numbers are the lowest in Northern California, we know there’s more work to be done — and we’re committed to doing it with care, dignity, and evidence-based programs.

Conservation and Recreation We’ve preserved thousands of acres through the Placer County Conservation Program and our partnership with Placer Land Trust has resulted in the opening of Big Hill Preserve, an expansion of Hidden Falls. New trails and access are being constructed now and will be open to the public soon.

In September 2024, Congress reauthorized the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act, extending it ten years with $300 million in funding. This vital legislation supports environmental projects like wetland restoration and forest fuel reduction. The federal commitment has helped leverage local, state, and private investments, which together total more than $2.8 billion in environmental improvements. Special thanks to Congressman Kevin Kiley for his support.

Fire Safety and Resilience Wildfire is Placer County’s greatest threat, prompting a top-priority focus on forest health and wildfire management. In 2024, the county adopted a 10-year action plan, identifying 22,000 acres for fuel reduction. Efforts include partnerships, a chipper program, a new biomass facility, and leading the nation in Firewise communities.

Serving Our Growing Community Placer County has expanded services to West Placer for easier access. The Clerk Recorder Elections office in Rocklin now offers certificates and weddings. The Santucci Justice Center houses the Superior Court, District Attorney, and new coroner. Upcoming sheriff and mental health facilities, along with a vocational training center, enhance support. The Sunset building provides veterans, employment, and business services.

I’m grateful every day to serve this community, and I hope this gives you a sense of the momentum we’re building. Let’s stay connected — I’d love to hear your thoughts on Placer 2050!

Warm regards,
Bonnie

Blue Envelope

I had the opportunity to attend a press conference announcing the launch of the Blue Envelope Program here in Placer County. This important initiative is designed to support individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities during interactions with law enforcement.

The Blue Envelope contains key information to help bridge communication gaps—ensuring safety, understanding, and compassion in potentially stressful situations. It’s a powerful step forward in building a more inclusive and aware community.

Huge thanks to the dedicated organizations, advocates, and local law enforcement agencies who are making this happen. This was a program that Aldo Pineschi took the initiative to get started on early last year and I am proud to see Placer County leading the way in Northern California with this meaningful initiative!

The West Placer Community Forum is scheduled for Wednesday evening, May 21, 2025 at 6:00 pm.

The West Placer Municipal Advisory Council will convene as needed during this time. Please subscribe to the West Placer Bulletin to stay up to date on meeting details.

What is a MAC?

The Municipal Advisory Council may advise the Board of Supervisors on matters that relate to the area served by the Municipal Advisory Council (MAC). The Council shall advise the Board of Supervisors on matters specifically referred to it by the Board of Supervisors for review and recommendation.

Municipal Advisory Councils (MACs) are groups of residents from the local community who advise the Board of Supervisors on concerns. They are open forums where information about land use, transportation and general county information is shared and discussed. Residents can attend these meetings in their own community and talk about issues that are important to them.

Visit Placer.CA.Gov/WPMAC for more information, agendas and minutes from the West Placer MAC
