Spring Into Community: Updates and Upcoming Events

Cindy

Spring is a time of renewal, and here in Eastern Placer, we’re welcoming this season with fresh momentum and exciting opportunities for public engagement. I’m excited to share a few important updates and invite you to join us at several upcoming events designed to keep you informed and involved.

We’re excited to welcome and congratulate the newly appointed and reappointed members of the North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council and the Olympic Valley Municipal Advisory Council. These councils play a key role in sharing community input with our office, particularly on land-use matters. But beyond that, they serve as an important gateway for community conversation, updates, and collaboration.

To further increase accessibility, we are continuing our commitment to host monthly forums—whether or not there is an official MAC meeting agenda. These forums provide an opportunity to connect with your District 5 team, hear the latest updates, and engage in meaningful dialogue about local projects and issues that matter to you.

North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council Appointments:

• Maggie Steakley
• Russell Hanson
• Rebecca McFadden
• Gerald Herrick
• Linda Meckel
• Edward Hilton
• Eugene Roeder
• Don Fulda
• Megan Chillemi

Meetings/forums are held the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., alternating between the North Tahoe Event Center and the Tahoe City Public Utility District.

Olympic Valley Municipal Advisory Council Appointments:

• David Stepner
• Andrew Lange
• Steve Burke
• Mark Nemeth
• Keith Fountain
• Mark Calhoun

Meetings/forums are held the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Olympic Valley Public Service District.

As we look ahead, I also want to highlight two additional opportunities to engage with your county representatives and community partners:

Eastern Placer Virtual Transportation Town Hall

Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m.

Join us online as we host representatives from Caltrans and the Placer County Department of Public Works for updates on key transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Eastern Placer. Topics will include road work, facility improvements, and stormwater management efforts that directly impact our region.  Zoom Link | Webinar ID: 995 0564 2938 https://placer-ca-gov.zoom.us/j/99505642938

Discover & Discuss Community Event

Tuesday, April 30 from 5–7:30 p.m.

North Tahoe Event Center, Kings Beach

This in-person, open-house-style event brings together County staff and partner agencies to share updates, answer questions, and collect your feedback on important regional programs and projects. A full room will be dedicated to housing solutions, offering space for in-depth discussions with the Housing Team and other local experts. Spanish interpretation, childcare, and food will be provided to ensure all are welcome.

From MAC meetings to forums, to virtual town halls and community open houses, we’re working hard to build more inclusive, transparent, and accessible pathways for public engagement. Your voice plays a vital role in shaping the future of our communities, and we hope to see you at one, or more, of these upcoming events. As always, please contact my office with any questions.

In service,
Cindy Gustafson
Placer County Supervisor, District 5

BOARD APPROVES PLAN FOR 80 AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS AT DOLLAR CREEK CROSSING

Dollar Creek

Following a financial feasibility study discussion, the Placer County Board of Supervisors approved staff to move forward with the design of a fully affordable housing development plan on a portion of the Dollar Creek Crossing site in North Lake Tahoe. The move shifts the project from a mix of 110 achievable and affordable housing units to at least 80 affordable units with a reserved area for potential future development. The county will move forward with a developer agreement to complete the planning, design and construction of the fully affordable project. The board also supported creating a potential local tenant preference program that would consider local employment and residency in prioritizing future tenants. LEARN MORE

TRAILHEAD IMPROVEMENTS COMING TO LOWER SAWTOOTH RECREATION AREA

Sawtooth

Placer County is moving forward with trailhead improvements this spring at the Lower Sawtooth parking lot at the popular entrance to U.S. Forest Service Road 06 in the Truckee area. The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved the county’s director of Public Works to initiate a construction contract with Baldoni Construction Service Inc. for up to $283,400 to pave the existing dirt parking areas at the Lower Sawtooth trailhead, add drainage and erosion control structures, install parking barriers and an informational kiosk, and add roadside signs to mitigate traffic concerns.
