Watch (4 Min): Veterans Services in Placer County

VSO_Video

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I wanted to take this opportunity to share some exciting and important updates about the innovative services we’re offering to seniors and veterans in Placer County. As your Supervisor, I’m proud to be part of a community that works hard to ensure our seniors and veterans receive the care and support they deserve. Did you know that 21% of Placer County residents are aged 60 or older? We’re committed to making sure all can flourish here.

One of the key programs helping seniors is the In-Home Supportive Services program. This initiative helps seniors remain in their homes by assisting with daily activities such as meal preparation, personal care, and more. This support is crucial for many, helping them maintain independence and avoid institutional care. We also have the Public Guardian office, which offers compassionate assistance to seniors who need help managing their affairs due to incapacity, ensuring their well-being is safeguarded.

In addition to these services, we’re focused on safety and protection. The Placer PROTECT Task Force works to combat elder abuse, offering a fraud hotline and victim support. Through Adult Protective Services, we investigate reports of neglect and exploitation, helping vulnerable seniors stay safe and connected to necessary resources.

For our veterans, Placer County’s Veterans Services Office (VSO) has been busy serving the community. Last year, they handled over 21,000 requests, helping veterans secure benefits such as healthcare, education, and more. The VSO helped bring $14.8 million in VA benefits to local veterans in 2024, with an impressive 26% increase from 2022. They also provide free, accredited support, so veterans don’t have to navigate the claims process alone or fall prey to unaccredited “claim sharks.” I encourage you to read the VSO's Annual Report.

You are also able to call 211 or visit 211 Connecting Point Placer to find more resources.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can do even more for seniors and veterans. Please feel free to reach out to me at SupervisorGore@placer.ca.gov with any suggestions.

Warm regards,
Bonnie
