Happy New Year!

cindy

As we kick-off a new year and a new term of office, myself and our team are working on setting priorities for initiatives throughout our communities, improving our outreach and service to you, and streamlining processes that often take far too long and are far too complicated.  We welcome your suggestions and look forward to meetings and opportunities to hear your thoughts and priorities for our communities in Eastern Placer County!

Homewood Mountain Resort

A critical project coming forward is Homewood Mountain Resort’s Proposed Master Plan Amendments and New Gondola.  Next week, (Wednesday, January 22, 2025) the TRPA Governing Board will be considering this plan and project.   Over the last two years we have received countless emails and communications regarding aspects of the plan, but none more critically important than preserving public access to skiing.    I have been, and continue to be, committed to ensuring that Homewood Mountain Resort remains a vibrant, accessible destination for our local community. It is essential that we find a balance between preserving public access to these cherished recreational opportunities and recognizing the operational needs of Homewood as a business entity.  With the incredible efforts of Keep Homewood Public and the responses from Homewood Mountain Resort, I believe we have come a long way to achieving that balance.

The “Community Access Planreflects the changes that resulted from the December TRPA Advisory Planning Commission deliberations as well as meetings with Keep Homewood Public.  Because of the significant concerns and fears that changes will be made over time to limit public access, TRPA staff has specifically addressed both the intent to keep the mountain open to the public and the strict enforcement (penalties, closure of the mountain, legal action) that could follow if violated.

The full details of the Master Plan and Proposed New Gondola can be found here.

Please review these important documents and reach out to our office with any questions and thoughts before next Wednesday’s meeting.

On a final somber note, the horrific fires in Southern California remind us of all the critical dangers we face living in the forest.  If you are able to provide support to those impacted there are both local and other opportunities available.

Being prepared should be an essential part of our daily lives. Below are some resources to help you prepare yourself, your home, and your community.
