Greetings and Happy New Year!

I would like to provide you with information about The Placer County Older Adult Advisory Commission (OAAC) on which I served representing the Board of Supervisors. Apparently, I’m qualified.

The OAAC is a public advisory group that was established for residents of all ages to voice the needs and concerns about the well-being and quality of life for older adults in Placer County. The OAAC Board members are charged with the responsibilities to:

  1. Evaluate services provided to older adults in Placer County and make recommendations regarding unmet needs.
  2. Review applications for services through Agency on Aging\Area 4.
  3. Advocate for increased services for older adults in Placer County.
  4. Review legislation impacting older adults and provide reports to the Placer County Board of Supervisors.

All meetings are open to the public.  Residents are encouraged to attend and express ideas, concerns, and to share information.

For more information, please contact www.placer.ca.gov or call (530) 886-3683.

One of the holiday events that the OAAC arranges, under the leadership of OAAC board member Karen Flannagan, is a comfort animal toy drive for children in concert with Placer County Public Safety agencies.

I would like to highlight a volunteer by the name of Liz Fackrell (and her sister, Martha Tubbs), who have donated dozens of knitted animals, and hat and scarves for older adults and children for the winter season during the Health and Human Services warm clothing drive.

And lastly, I welcome newly elected District 3 Placer County Supervisor Anthony DeMattei to the Board of Supervisors.

Gratefully,

Jim Holmes
