Douglas Boulevard Onramp Closure
If you commute on Interstate 80 from Placer County toward Sacramento, please be aware of upcoming weekend detours and plan your trips accordingly. Caltrans will temporarily close two key freeway onramps in Roseville as part of a major improvement project.
The westbound I-80 onramp at Douglas Boulevard will be closed starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 6, and will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 9. This closure is necessary as crews work to add a new auxiliary lane and a fifth lane on westbound I-80 between Douglas Boulevard and Riverside Avenue. The project also includes changes to the existing off-ramp, which will be reduced from two lanes to one.
- Detour for Douglas Onramp Closure: Drivers trying to access westbound I-80 from Douglas Boulevard will be detoured east to Sunrise Avenue. From there, turn right onto Cirby Way, then left onto Riverside Avenue to get back on the freeway.
- Loop Onramp Closure (Next Weekend): The following weekend, from Friday, October 13, through Monday, October 16, the loop onramp connecting westbound Douglas Boulevard to westbound I-80 will be closed. Drivers will be redirected north along North Sunrise Avenue, left on Eureka Road/Atlantic Street, and left again to access the I-80 slip road.
These temporary closures are part of a $46.1 million project to enhance traffic flow and safety on I-80. In addition to adding new lanes, crews will be excavating portions of the freeway, installing new lighting, and repaving the ramps.
While the weekend closures are temporary, Caltrans expects the overall project to continue through spring 2024. Please drive carefully and follow posted detour signs during these closures. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve your driving experience!
