WATCH (01:50) - Placer 2050: Placer County is updating its General Plan

General-Plan-Video_Thumb

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Our county is in the middle of updating its General Plan, which is essentially a long-term blueprint for how our community will grow and change over the next 25 years. This plan covers everything from where new housing and businesses will be placed to how we’ll manage transportation, protect our environment, and provide parks and services.

Here’s why this is important: California law requires counties to periodically update their General Plans to keep up with evolving needs and conditions. Our last major update was back in 1994, and while updates don’t have a fixed schedule, they usually happen every 15 to 25 years. Given all the changes our community has seen, especially in western Placer County, it’s clear that our current plan needs a refresh to address new challenges like housing affordability and environmental issues.

The 1994 plan set the foundation for significant projects and conservation efforts, but the last major adjustment was in 2013. This process is expected to take about three to four years, with the final plan and its Environmental Impact Report (EIR) being adopted in 2027.
