August 2024

Greetings,

For the last several years I have been the Co-Chair, along with Superior Court Presiding Judge Alan Pineschi, of the Placer County Criminal Policy Committee.

The committee consists of respected Placer County officials including Judge Pineschi, District Attorney Morgan Gire, Sheriff Wayne Woo, Chief Probation Officer Marshall Hopper, Placer County Executive Officer Daniel Chatigny, Chief Deputy County Counsel Julia Reeves, Health and Human Services Director Dr. Rob Oldham, Dan Koukol, Head of the Placer County Public Defender’s Office and my colleague, Placer County Supervisor Suzanne Jones.

The Committee is supported by staff members from their respective offices.

This meeting is the time for robust discussions regarding the events and challenges encountered within the criminal justice system in Placer County. It is refreshing for me to see how well our County Criminal Justice partners and Health and Human Services providers work together to provide the best outcomes for the people of Placer County.

The meetings generally last for 90 minutes and, at meetings end, there are further follow-up discussions among the committee members.

I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to have served and been involved in these important issues in keeping our county safe.

Warm Regards,

Supervisor Jim Holmes

Placer County Museums are seeking volunteers!

museum volunteers

Are you interested in meeting new people and have a little extra time to spare? Consider joining our team of museum docents where you can go behind the scenes and learn what makes Placer County so special. From the Gold Rush to important industries and world-famous events like the 1960 Winter Olympics, there is so much exciting history to share and we will teach you everything you need to know.

Since 1948, Placer County has operated museums to help enrich our communities and today, we are proud to welcome visitors to eight free-admission museums throughout the region. Docents typically volunteer for a couple of afternoons a month and enjoy sharing our local history with visitors of all ages—many even like the option to peruse our costume closet and dress in 19th-century style.

If this sounds like something you, or someone you know, might enjoy, we would love to hear from you! Our annual volunteer training starts in August, and we hope you will join us. Please reach out if you have any questions or want to learn more at 530-889-6500 or by email at museums@placer.ca.gov.
