WATCH (02:10) - Grazing Goats Help Reduce West Placer Fire Risk

Goats Header

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Throughout June, the Placer County Department of Agriculture, Parks, and Natural Resources brought in 2,000 goats to Dry Creek Community Park for a unique wildfire prevention project.

These goats, including adorable kids, were grazing on weeds, invasive plants, and tree limbs to reduce the fuel that could feed wildfires. It's such a smart way to create natural firebreaks and protect our communities from fire hazards.

This approach is not only eco-friendly but also cost-effective. By letting the goats do what they naturally do—clearing dense vegetation—the County is making our neighborhoods safer without relying solely on more traditional methods.

The County has planned 17 similar operations across county-owned properties from Roseville to Foresthill. While they’ve completed their work at Dry Creek Park and moved onto other parts of the county, I’m sure we will continue to have goats present in our community for years to come, as they are a vital part of our fire prevention operation.

WATCH (8 min): Supervisor Gore's Conversation with Placer County Fire Chief Brian Estes

On the topic of wildfires, I also want to share my deepest appreciation for the fire fighters and law enforcement who protect our community, especially this past week. Three separate wildfires flared in our area: the 17-acre PFE Fire on June 20, the 438-acre Amoruso Fire on June 24, and another near Dyer Lane and Watt Avenue on June 26. Without their valiant response, many residents, animals, and structures would have been in grave danger.

Lastly, I want to remind all residents and visitors that NO fireworks are permitted in Unincorporated Placer County, including “safe and sane”. While "safe and sane" fireworks are permitted within Roseville, the City has increased penalties for illegal fireworks.

No Fireworks Sign

I wish you and your family a very safe and happy Independence Day! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I’m always happy to connect with you.

Sincerely,
Bonnie

City of Roseville Increases Penalties for Illegal Fireworks

Roseville Fire Graphic

Illegal fireworks carry many risks, including injury to yourself or others, property damage from fires or explosions, the safety of our first responders, costs of responding to emergencies, environmental harm to open space and air quality, and legal consequences for people who use them.

The Roseville City Council amended the municipal code in May 2024, making penalties for those who use illegal fireworks much more severe starting this year.

Note: This information is from the government of City of Roseville and not the County of Placer. NO fireworks are permitted in unincorporated Placer County, outside city limits.

Homelessness

Annual Point In Time Count Breakdown

Homeless-Shelter

The Placer Continuum of Care (CoC) completes an annual Point-in-Time count of our homeless population. The 2024 Placer count was a community wide effort conducted on January 24, for where people stayed the night of January 23, and continued by street outreach teams through February 1. A survey was administered to 702 individuals, sheltered and unsheltered, experiencing homelessness in order to profile their experience and characteristics.
