With extreme heat warnings issued for Placer County and the approaching holiday week, our rivers are expected to see a surge in visitors seeking relief from the heat. Placer County's Office of Emergency Management, led by Lt. Ty Conners and Assistant Chief Ryan Woessner, is collaborating closely with the Placer County Sheriff, CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire swift water teams, and State Park Lifeguards. We are bolstering staffing to maintain a visible presence, from Wednesday (7/3) through Sunday (7/7) during peak visitor times,ย  aiming not only to educate river-goers on safety but also to promote the use of lifejackets. This proactive approach will significantly enhance our ability to respond swiftly to any water-related emergencies.

The Placer County Sheriff's Helicopter, Falcon 30, with its hoisting capabilities in river rescues, will conduct periodic flyovers of lakes and river systems throughout the county. At river locations, announcements will be made reminding swimmers about the importance of wearing lifejackets.

This multi-agency effort underscores our commitment to ensuring everyone can enjoy our waterways safely. Tragically, there have already been drownings on the American River this year, reinforcing the critical need for these safety measures.
