April 2024

Greetings,

In 2015, the Board of Supervisors made the difficult decision to close the Placer County Library in Loomis.

Since then, the residents of the Loomis Basin, young and old, rallied together to work with the Friends of the Loomis Library to preserve their beloved Library.

In 2016 the Town Council placed Measure F, a 1/4 cent sales tax measure on the November ballot that stated if approved the revenue from it shall be spent on the library. Measure F passed by 64%.

The Town Council appointed a Library Board and appointed Sarah Comstock as the Community Engagement Librarian. Subsequently, the Placer County Board of Supervisors transferred the building title to the Town of Loomis.

The Loomis Library and Community Learning Center has been an amazing success.

On March 27, Loomis community members gathered at the library to attend the official opening of the UC Master Gardeners of Placer County Demonstration Garden where home gardeners can learn more about native plants, pollinators, composting, edible gardens and so much more. This project is a major enhancement to the library grounds and provides one more reason to visit.

Working with Councilmember Jennie Knisely and Town Manager Wes Heathcock the Town Council gave the project unwavering support.

The Placer County Water Agency was a natural resource that focuses on sustainability, summer strong plants, and of course, water efficiency. PCWA Board Chair, Robert Dugan presented the Town of Loomis and the Master Gardeners with a $17,000 turf removal rebate.

I am excited about the future promise of the Town of Loomis and the Loomis Library and Learning Center.

Warm Regards,

Supervisor Jim Holmes
