UPDATE FROM PCSO
Operations Secret Santa is back this year. A generous donor from our community has given the Sheriff’s Office gift cards for us to go out and distribute as we see fit. This is an awesome program where deputies, through their interactions, are able to give out gift cards to families and kids in need throughout our community during the holiday season. |

Shop with a Cop happened this past weekend, and it was an awesome success. Agencies from all over the county were able to participate, and the Sheriff’s Office was able to sponsor 15 kids. On Saturday, the fifteen kids, along with a contingency of employees from the agency, went shopping for all kinds of fun stuff. This is an awesome experience for the kids and the Sheriff’s Office employees. |

UPDATE FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE
Monday was another court check-in hearing regarding the state designated Sexually Violent Predator William Stephenson. Our office had the assigned prosecutor present at the hearing alongside county counsel. Our office was also joined by county representatives, Crime Victims United, media and community members to monitor the check in.
William Stephenson virtually called in along with Department of State Hospitals and their contractor Liberty Healthcare. The judge reported that Liberty Healthcare submitted updated terms and conditions to Mr. Stephenson’s release. These conditions were not provided to county counsel prior to the hearing for a proper review.
The defense indicated they are agreeable to any terms and conditions, such as 24-hour surveillance, if it results in the release of Mr. Stephenson.
Department of State Hospitals also reported that 112 new searches have taken place since the last meeting, and there are not any concrete housing leads from this search. Liberty did indicate they were in talks with a homeowner for a placement and will be starting a site assessment in the coming weeks. They also have looked at county and state property, without any leads.
DSH did indicate that they are looking to host another housing meeting in late January.
The defense requested the court to reconsider and grant the unconditional transient release of Mr. Stephenson to address due process concerns. The District Attorney’s Office objected to this request. The court denied Mr. Stephenson’s request.
Both the DA representative as well as county counsel reiterated that releasing Mr. Stephenson to a hotel or motel presents a significant public safety risk and has historically high failure rates.
The next hearing will be a housing committee meeting in January to be confirmed soon. The judge tentatively set another court check-in hearing for Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. in Department 32.
Thank you for your continued support, we will provide the date for the housing meeting as soon as we have it.
