DISTRICT 5 NEWSLETTER | AUGUST 25

TWO CRUCIAL & TIME SENSITIVE TOPICS IN PLACER COUNTY

cindy gustafson

Normally I send my District 5 Newsletter after the beginning of each month - but there are currently two critical topics in our County that prompted me to get a newsletter out early.

First, I'd like to address a matter of significant concern that has been circulating within our community. The recent news of a sexual offender's potential release in Placer County, has sparked strong opposition and emotions among residents.

It's important to acknowledge the deep-seated concerns and fears that this situation has brought to the forefront. The safety and well-being of our community members are of the utmost importance, and it's natural that such news would lead to heightened discussions. We encourage you to stay informed about any developments related to this case. Open communication and active participation within the community will be crucial in addressing these concerns effectively. Placer County’s Sheriff, District Attorney and the Board of Supervisors are urging residents to submit comments online at the SVP transient release case portal to oppose the transient release of sexually violent predator William Stephenson into Placer County. The deadline to submit comments is TODAY (August 25) at 5pm for the Placer County Superior Court hearing in Roseville on September 1 at 8:30am.

Second, in today's rapidly changing world, ensuring that you and your loved ones have access to affordable insurance coverage is crucial. The Placer County Office of Economic Development is hosting a free webinar on August 28 at 6:30pm focused on insurance and disaster resiliency for Placer County home and business owners. The webinar will feature key speaker, Lisa Strange, Northern California Outreach Manager for the California Department of Insurance, who will lead a discussion on the latest news about homeowners insurance, updates on the FAIR Plan and tips if you have been cancelled/non-renewed or have claims that have not been paid. The webinar will also feature a speaker from the Small Business Administration to discuss disaster resiliency practices for small businesses. This is great opportunity to learn more about protecting your home or business. REGISTER HERE

Thank you for being a part of our community and staying engaged with the issues that matter most.

In service,
Supervisor Cindy Gustafson
