Call to Action: Sexually Violent Predator Comments Needed - Supervisor Bonnie Gore's August 2023 Newsletter
Placer County, California sent this bulletin at 08/23/2023 11:27 AM PDT
Dear Friends and Neighbors: On July 17th, 2023, a Placer County Judge ruled in favor of having a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) released back as a transient into our community. I have joined the many voices, including our Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire and Sheriff Wayne Woo, speaking out against the release of sexually violent predator, William Stephenson . As your County Supervisor and former Mayor of the City of Roseville, I have been involved with and impacted by Mr. Stephenson. He was placed in my neighborhood in 2014 by Liberty Healthcare, the organization responsible for these types of placements by the California Department of State Hospitals. In 2017, he was arrested for possession of illicit images of children while living there. Our community raised concerns about Mr. Stephenson and they were realized. Now is your opportunity to join our effort! I strongly encourage you to make your voice heard by submitting a comment online at Placer.CA.Gov/SVP. Tell the courts that you support District Attorney Morgan Gire’s request to delay the release of Mr. Stephenson until the Department of State Hospitals and Liberty Healthcare can present a plan for placement and a specific location. I continue to believe that sexually violent predators, like Mr. Stephenson, should not be allowed in our neighborhoods where children and families reside. Without a specific location designated for his release, it is difficult to assure the safety of our residents. He has proven a tendency to recidivate and, with transient releases having only a 50% success rate, it is inappropriate to release him on transient status into Placer County. The deadline to submit comments is THIS Friday, August 25, for the public hearing. It will be held at the Placer County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. on September 1, to discuss Stephenson’s transient release into the public. It is unlikely, and not required, that there will be a public comment period during the hearing so, again, please submit your comments online at Placer.CA.Gov/SVP. Sincerely, Supervisor Bonnie Gore

In the CommunityCaltrans Groundbreaking Ceremony
This month I attended the groundbreaking for the much needed auxiliary lanes on I-80 to reduce traffic congestion. Transportation projects are expensive and I’m grateful for all of the partners who have worked together to allocate the funds - CalTrans, Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) and the Federal Highway Administration. Regional Homelessness Update PresentationsThank you to the Roseville Host Lions Club (pictured below) and the Roseville Coalition of Neighborhood Associations General Board for letting me speak with you about the homelessness planning effort taking place with our community and civic partners!
