CELEBRATE SAFELY & ENJOY A GREAT INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Wishing you a memorable Independence Day filled with joy and gratitude. The Fourth of July commemorates the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation when 56 members of the Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence. May this holiday not only serve as a reminder of the bravery, passion, and patriotism in our country but also the day we were gifted independence, self-determination, and the right to dream big. This historic document is still a wonderful read and a way to remember our founding fathers words as they established a new country, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness….”

As you gather with friends and family, please remember to keep each other and our communities safe. Continue to stay cautious through fire season and remain vigilant. Remember fireworks are illegal in unincorporated Placer County.

DRONE AND FIREWORKS SHOWS ABOUND IN COUNTY BUT FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN UNINCORPORATED PLACER AND ALCOHOL IS BANNED ON THE TRUCKEE RIVER

In an effort to reduce wildfire risk and maintain the health and safety of visitors and residents during Fourth of July celebrations, county officials are emphasizing two key rules: All fireworks are illegal in unincorporated Placer County, including the Lake Tahoe Basin, and alcohol is banned on the Truckee River from July 1-6. Due to Placer County’s vulnerability to damaging wildfires, the Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance prohibiting fireworks of all types, including those ‘safe and sane’ fireworks intended for home use that are sold at roadside stands throughout the region. Officials are also warning visitors that alcohol is banned on the Truckee River from July 1-6, an annual safety ban originally passed by the Board of Supervisors in 2012. HIDDEN FALLS REGIONAL PARK WILL BE CLOSED JUNE 30 - JULY 2

As part of our land stewardship and commitment to reducing wildfire risk, Hidden Falls Regional Park will be closed to public access during days that are determined to be extreme fire weather. Visitors with reservations during closure days will be given credit for the purchase price of their reservation to be used for a future visit. Thank you for your understanding in helping to keep Hidden Falls and its neighbors safe from wildfire. LEARN MORE


BOARD SUPERVISORS MEETING | JUNE 27

The Board of Supervisors meeting on June 27 included a number of items that are specific to or impact District 5, including:


PLACER’S ADOPTED BUDGET FOR 23.24 FUNDS INCREASED PUBLIC SAFETY, HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES FOR GROWING POPULATION

With an eye on its “getting growth right” initiative, the Placer County Board of Supervisors adopted its fiscal year 2023-24 budget - increasing funding for community services to keep up with demand from a growing population. The $1,276,837,090 budget is $55.6 million - or 4.6% - higher than in fiscal year 2022-23. The adopted budget will serve as the county’s operating budget for the new fiscal year beginning July 1. The Placer County Planning Services Division is launching a three-to-five-year effort to comprehensively update the county’s general plan, a road map document that will set a new vision for the unincorporated area of the county in areas such as land use, housing, mobility, natural resource protection, climate change, environmental justice and more through the year 2050. PLACER ELECTIONS OFFICE IMPLEMENTS VOTER'S CHOICE ACT

The Placer County Board of Supervisors voted to authorize the Placer County Elections Office to implement the requirements of Senate Bill 450, also known as the California Voter’s Choice Act. These requirements include the submission of an Election Administration Plan to the Secretary of State which, if approved, will allow the county to transition to a vote center model beginning with the March 2024 Presidential Primary Election.
