Featured story
In a proactive effort to strengthen emergency response capabilities, the first responder agencies of Placer and Nevada counties came together this week for the annual west slope unified command training exercise.
Led by the Placer County Sheriff's Office, CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer and the Placer County Office of Emergency Services, this joint training exercise brought together approximately 100 dedicated firefighters, deputies, and county officials. The exercise provided essential training to enhance seamless coordination to ensure swift, effective action when faced with potential disasters.
By fostering collaborative partnerships and honing critical skills, this unified command training equips our first responders with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively work together in times of crisis.

The May 28, 1936 Auburn Journal informed readers that the new “Placer County” song is on sale and urged readers to procure a copy so they may learn the words and timing, and many voices would be able to sing the song during the upcoming Gold Rush Revival.
The song was written by Mrs. Luzetta Griffitts Swett earlier that year. The Auburn Service clubs adopted the song and superintendent of schools, Portia Moss, ordered a copy for the music department of every school in Placer County.
The Auburn Journal stated that copies are for sale at Steven’s Drug Store and at the local music store at regular sheet music prices.
Luzetta Griffitts Swett died in 1963 and is buried in the Old Auburn Cemetery. The Placer County Museums Archives has a copy of her song and recently it was featured in a sampling of music recorded on historic instruments at the Bernhard Museum by Alicia McMillan (instrumental only).
