UPDATE FROM PCSO
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is excited to unveil a bronze statue to honor the nine deputies who died in the line of duty. The eight-foot statue, created and sculpted by world-renowned artist Douglas Van Howd, is also a tribute to the western 1800s-era sheriff’s deputy. The statue will be connected to a monument featuring the names of all nine deputies who put their lives on the line to uphold the oath they took to protect and serve the citizens of Placer County.
These are the deputies’ names: George M. Martin, Frank Dependener, William Elam, Charles Carter, Richard Sheppard, Arden Webster, James Machado, Tim Ruggles, Michael Davis Jr. The idea was first introduced when Devon Bell served as sheriff; through the strong support of the Placer County Sheriff’s Council, Van Howd was commissioned to work on the sculpture, which will be positioned for public display on May 17th. This years-long project will serve as a reminder of the unwavering commitment and dedication these deputies had for their citizens
