WATCH (2 Min): Placer Food Bank - Stand Against Hunger

Dave Martinez Food Bank

Dear Friends and Neighbors -

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

When we think of the holidays, we think of being around the table with our loved ones eating a large meal and enjoying the warmth of the home and spirit.

Some of our neighbors are not as fortunate and struggle to provide their families with gifts or even put a meal on the table. We have some wonderful organizations in our community, like the Placer Food Bank (PFB), that support those neighbors. I hope you will join me in supporting them this holiday season.

PFB has been there for our residents during the most horrific of times, like the Mosquito Fire or when many families lost their livelihoods during the early days of the Covid-19 shutdowns. Prior to Covid-19, the PFB served 90,000 people per month, with the pandemic and shutdown impacting our community, that number increased to 150,000 served per month in 2021.

Can you help?

They need our help this year. Food banks that expanded to meet unprecedented demand brought on by the pandemic won’t be able to continue to absorb food costs that are two to three times what they used to be. (WATCH: ABC 10)

Supply chain disruptions, lower inventory and labor shortages have all contributed to increased costs for charities on which tens of millions of people in the U.S. rely on for nutrition. Donated food is more expensive to move because transportation costs are up, and bottlenecks at factories and ports make it difficult to get goods of all kinds.

I encourage you to support the Placer Food Bank with whatever you can provide and know that it is very appreciated.

Donations can be made online: placerfoodbank.org or by mailing checks to: Placer Food Bank, 8284 Industrial Avenue, Roseville, CA 95678.
