WATCH (3 Min): Supervisor Gore speaks with Ag Commissioner about the Ag/Urban Interface ahead of "Crops and Cul-de-Sacs"

Crops+Cul-de-Sacs-2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

According to the latest Placer County crop report, our agriculture industry value set an all-time record of $100 million in 2021. Rice, along with almonds, beef cattle, walnuts and nursery stock, were the county's top five highest-gross-value crops. Many of those products, like almonds and rice, are grown right here in West Placer.

This month I was able to speak with Josh Huntsinger, the Placer County Agricultural Commissioner about the wonderful local bounty. We also discussed the concerns on 'both sides of the fence,' residents concerns about ongoing farming operations and what farmers have expressed about residents on and around their farms.

Our conversation is a short segment of what we will discuss at "Crops and Cul-de-Sacs."

Please join us at West Park High School in Roseville at 5 p.m. on October 17 for a robust, interactive conversation about the impact and challenges of agriculture operations near you, our suburban residents. Meet local farmers and ranchers and learn how to get fresh Placer Grown products onto your dinner table (and sample some, too!)

The expo portion of the event will feature the Sierra College Agriculture Science Department, Placer Grown and informational booths about the Placer County Conservation Plan and Placer County Water Agency, to name a few.

I encourage all residents to attend in person but if you're unable to be there, you can register for the ZOOM stream at Placer.CA.Gov/CropsAndCul-de-Sacs.

Have an awesome autumn and I look forward to seeing you on October 17 at West Park High School!

Sincerely,
Bonnie
