WATCH (2 Min): Opportunities and Resources for Local Seniors

BG-thumb-july-2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors –

Our community has been frequently named one of the best places to retire in the nation. We continue to have wonderful involvement from our non-profit groups and volunteers to support our older adults.

Placer County Older Adult Advisory Commission

For almost 20 years, the Older Adult Advisory Commission (OAAC) has been a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers who serve and advise the Board of Supervisors and Department of Health and Human Services on how best to improve the lives of the 107,000 seniors in our County.

In 2022, the OAAC successfully championed an effort to have Placer County join the AARP network of Age Friendly Communities. This designation recognized our efforts in promoting, creating and sustaining and environment that gives residents of all ages to live rewarding, productive and safe lives.

Our seniors have so much to offer and the OAAC provides opportunities to work, volunteer, learn and mentor. I encourage you to get involve with the Older Adult Advisory Commission by attending one of their meetings:

Placer PROTECT Senior Resource Fair

Another opportunity for our senior community is the no-cost Placer PROTECT Senior Resource Fair on August 11.

Seniors, and their family members, can meet over 50 different resource providers who specialize in providing services to seniors.  PROTECT is also hosting a shred event (2 boxes max), a legal clinic, a technology clinic, lunch for all participants (while supplies last), and educational seminars throughout the day.

The resources fair takes place at the Maidu Community Center at 1550 Maidu Drive in Roseville.
