With crisp sunny days, vivid colors from the changing leaves, and stunning vibrant sunsets – it's easy to say that fall in Placer County is one of the most beautiful times of the year. It’s also one of the best times of the year to get outside to explore the amazing outdoors with ideal weather, stunning landscapes, and less crowds.  

And while the season is changing, our fire season is still very much here. As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, I will continue to push out wildfire updates and resources until we begin to see significant rain and snow. Please continue to stay educated, informed, prepared, and safe!

Last Friday, I was thrilled to join California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, officials and staff from North Lake Tahoe, Placer County, Nevada County, Town of Truckee, and developers and residents for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of 288 new affordable and workforce housing units at five locations throughout the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee region. A total of $150 million was infused into the local economy to develop these housing units! These affordable housing units are vital if we are to keep the fabric of our communities strong. The homes will provide for our teachers, our firefighters, and sheriff’s deputies. They will provide for our county, town and tourism-related workers. Developments like these help ensure opportunities for our children to be able to stay in the communities they love. Moving forward, we are committed to keeping affordable housing as a top priority to protect our communities for generations to come. LEARN MORE

The once-a-decade process of revising Placer County's supervisorial district boundaries continues with a public meeting with our Advisory Redistricting Commission. District lines can shape residents’ ability to elect the representative of their choice. Visit the Redistricting Placer interactive website, a roadmap for how residents can participate in redrawing Placer’s supervisorial district boundaries to reflect population changes reported in the 2020 Census. The Placer County Board of Supervisors voted in February to appoint the Placer County Planning Commission to act as the Advisory Redistricting Commission to draw redistricting maps, which will ultimately be brought forward to the public and board for formal review and adoption. 

The following residents serve on the Advisory Redistricting Commission:
Samuel Cannon, District 1; Nathan Herzog, District 2; Anthony DeMattei, District 3; Daniel Woodward, District 4; Anders Hauge, District 5; Larry Sevison, At-Large East of Sierra Crest; Richard Johnson, At-Large West of Sierra Crest. 

Redistricting takes place every 10 years after the federal census. Using the Census data, county officials realign supervisorial districts in their counties, accounting for shifts in population growth since the last Census and assuring equal representation for their constituents in compliance with the “one-person, one-vote” principle of the Voting Rights Act. LEARN MORE
