Declaration of Independence

Dear Friends and Neighbors –

July 4th is an annual reminder of the courage exemplified by those that came before us to establish and defend the freedoms we now hold dear. While we may struggle each day to achieve the goals set out by the Declaration of Independence, it stands as a resolute guide for how we can achieve liberty and justice for all. I hope you have a wonderful Independence Day.

County offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day on Monday, July 5.

Many of you will take your celebration to Lake Tahoe this year and I want to highlight some of the ways the Board of Supervisors are working to improve the experience for both visitors and residents of the North Lake Tahoe area.

The Tahoe Area Regional Transit or “TART” has offered free-to-rider bus service for a couple years but beginning this month Placer County and partners are providing free on-demand transportation service to North Lake Tahoe.

Known as “TART Connect,” the free shuttle service provides curb-to-curb service throughout North Lake Tahoe, including across the state line. Passengers can request the service through a mobile application, similar to how popular services such as Uber and Lyft operate. Passengers who don’t have the app can call 530-214-5811 to schedule a ride.

I encourage you to download the app for your next trip to Tahoe, link below. Our hope is that visitors from outside of the Tahoe basin will take advantage of this new program to reduce traffic and improve the experience for guests and residents alike.

Another way we are working to improve the experience is with improved trash service through the “Clean Tahoe” partnership.

Clean Tahoe provides several services including litter removal and hauling services, volunteer litter pickup programs and more. It is already operating in South Lake Tahoe, which made the program a natural choice to complement the many efforts happening at a county level. This service will be in addition to the regular trash services provided by Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal.

Overabundance of trash has become an increasing public concern, health hazard and wildlife safety issue. Overflowing trash receptacles have resulted in windblown litter attracting wildlife, including bears, and created unsafe wildlife interactions in the North Tahoe area. Public trash cans and commercial bins have become dropping points for trash from areas without sufficient disposal service, increasing trash concerns in Tahoe.

Placer County has been working on short- and long-term solutions, while coordinating with local agencies and business organizations to discuss strategies and implement solutions. In the past year, Placer County increased trash services, updated the current trash service requirement, added additional trash bins and placed signage to raise awareness on the issue.

While you are in Tahoe, please take extra care of the community as many of our fellow Placer County residents call the area home. We are fortunate to have a world renowned destination right in our back yard and now, with more transit options and trash service, we can have an even more enjoyable experience.

Have a joyous July and very Happy Independence Day!

Sincerely,
Bonnie

Fireworks in Placer County

Firework Poster

Only Safe and Sane fireworks are legal in the City of Roseville and no fireworks are permitted in the unincorporated part of Placer County. For District, that includes the area south of Baseline Road and East of Brady Lane.

The legal sale of fireworks at designated booths begins at noon, June 28. Sales run through July 4 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

Remember, any firework that flies in the air, darts across the ground or explodes is considered illegal in California. If it doesn't have the California State Fire Marshal's seal on the packaging, it's illegal.

The legal time period for discharge of Safe and Sane fireworks is from 12 p.m. on June 28 through 11:59 p.m. on July 4.
