Dear Friends and Neighbors -

The Covid-19 shutdowns have had many unintended consequences not least of which is an increased demand on our social services. With the holidays approaching, and our friends and neighbors experiencing layoffs, furloughs and missed paychecks, many will be using services like the Placer Food Bank (PFB) for the first time.

I want to make sure you are aware of some of the services available to you or someone you know who may be in need. Or if you are able, opportunities to support this wonderful organization that has been serving Placer County for 50 years.

Prior to Covid-19, the PFB served 90,000 people per month, with the pandemic and shutdown impacting our community, that number has increased to 150,000 served per month.

Within the past eight months, PFB expanded their monthly free Farmer’s Markets drive-through distributions from three to nine locations in Placer and El Dorado Counties. This again is addressing the over 25% increase in food assistance needs in the community since COVID. Location listings can be found at: placerfoodbank.org/get-food/  For those interested in volunteering at PFB’s Farmer’s Markets drive-through distributions or at their warehouse inquire through: volunteer@placerfoodbank.org.  During this time, PFB is taking extreme caution to ensure volunteer safety and volunteer opportunities are limited.

For safety purposes, PFB has halted all individual and company food donation drives. What is needed this holiday season are monetary donations to elevate our ability to provide more food for holiday tables this season. For every $1 donated, PFB can purchase $20 worth of wholesale groceries – every $1 also translates into 10 meals. A $50 donation provides 500 meals.

Donations can be made online: placerfoodbank.org or by mailing checks to: Placer Food Bank, 8284 Industrial Ave., Roseville, CA 95678.

I encourage you to support the Placer Food Bank with whatever you can provide and know that it is very appreciated.

Have a wonderful November and a very happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Gore
Placer County Supervisor, District 1
