Placer declares the end of local COVID-19 health emergency

Citing a low incidence of COVID-19 and increasing harm caused by California’s reopening framework, our Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution declaring the end of Placer’s local health emergency. Though state health orders, directives and guidance remain in full effect in Placer County, the resolution expresses the board’s concerns that the state framework for measuring COVID-19 mischaracterizes the current state of disease in Placer County and harms the community’s economic, health, mental and social well-being. 4 weekends + 4 cities = a whole lot of takeout

The Roseville Area, Rocklin Area, Lincoln Area and Loomis Basin chambers of commerce are launching the “Placer Valley Eats” event. This event, spanning the next four weekends in September and October, will focus on different restaurants, caterers, breweries and wineries in the Placer Valley area. During these weekends, many businesses will be offering special menu items and promotions. Learn more

The Pacific Southwest Region U.S Forest Service announced Wednesday that all 18 national forests in California will be temporarily closed due to historic fire conditions. Learn more


New program helps prepare Placer for wildfire!

Air quality advisory issued due to smoke

The Placer County Health Officer and Placer County Air Pollution Control District have issued a joint air quality advisory through at least Friday, Sept. 11, to notify the public of continued poor air quality conditions from smoke from the numerous wildfires throughout the state. Learn more

Placer County will soon have a familiar face as our new director of Health and Human Services and chief psychiatrist: Dr. Rob Oldham. Oldham previously served as our health officer and director of Public Health from 2014-2019. Learn more


Rice is Placer’s top crop for 2019

Strong prices and an increase in planted acreage of rice and walnut crops in Placer County helped drive a 17% increase of total crop value. That’s according to the 2019 Placer County Agricultural Crop Report, presented to the county Board of Supervisors earlier this week. Read more
