Friends and Neighbors -

While we continue through these unpredictable times, I think it is important that we talk about the safety of our homes and families. We are fortunate to live in a community with excellent and innovative law enforcement departments like the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and Roseville Police Department. Both Departments are offering programs that will allow citizens to take a more active part in helping solve crimes in our community.

Do you have a video security system in your home? These two programs, Placer County “Sheriff’s Eagle Eye (SEE)” and Roseville Police Department’s “Keep Watch,” allow you to register that you have a surveillance system at your address. Then, when a crime occurs, Deputies or Officers will be able to identify the locations of nearby video cameras and enlist the assistance of the community to help officers collect video evidence and follow up on leads.

If you live in unincorporated Placer County, I encourage you to sign up for the “Sheriff’s Eagle Eye” and if you live within the City limits of Roseville, sign up for “Keep Watch.”

Placer County Sheriff’s Eagle Eye

The Sheriff’s Eagle Eye (SEE) is a tool that allows our Deputies and Detectives to quickly locate where video is available in our community. SEE is a voluntary program in which a citizen or business owner can register their video surveillance system with the Sheriff’s Office. This is a quick process that can be done online within a matter of a few minutes.

You will be asked a series of general questions regarding camera locations, video retention and a person to contact regarding the video. This information will allow PCSO staff to quickly locate possible video of an incident/crime saving valuable time during an investigation. It also helps to ensure that we do not miss any video that might be available.

It is important to note that registering in this program is voluntary, has no cost, can be canceled at any time and does NOT provide anyone with remote access to your video camera system.

Roseville Police Department “Keep Watch”

The Keep Watch program looks to partner with owners of private video surveillance systems to collect video evidence.

When a crime occurs, the Roseville Police will be able to identify the locations of the participating video surveillance systems and enlist the assistance of the video system owners.

The Roseville Police will be able to contact registered citizens in the area in which the crime occurred.  Security camera owners could then check their surveillance system for footage capturing a specific suspect or vehicle, on a specific date and time.  If a citizen discovers any video evidence, they can contact Roseville Police to make arrangements for video retrieval because the police will have no direct access to a camera’s live signal or recorded material.

Those who register their surveillance cameras will receive a Roseville Police Keep Watch window sticker.

Stay safe this month and I look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Sincerely,

Bonnie
