New grant program approved for business, nonprofit COVID-19 expenses

The Placer County Board of Supervisors voted this week to set aside $8 million of the county’s federal CARES Act funding to establish a new grant program that would reimburse local businesses and nonprofits for a portion of their eligible COVID-19 expenses. The program is expected to roll out by the end of summer. Read more


Curbside pick up now available at Auburn Library

Book lovers rejoice! The Placer County Library now offers curbside service at the Auburn Library. Library cardholders will be able to pick up materials 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and return materials weekdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Auburn Library at 350 Nevada Street. Hidden Fall Regional Park to close during extreme fire weather

Be sure to check Hidden Falls Regional Park’s status before your next visit. Starting July 1, we will close public access to the park in North Auburn when extreme fire weather conditions are present. The new protocol is anticipated to remain in effect through the fall when California’s wildfire risk is at its greatest. Read more


Fireworks are banned in Placer County

Fireworks pose a major danger to California’s safety. Many serious injuries occur nationwide due to the careless handling of fireworks. Although the use of “safe and sane” fireworks is allowed within the city limits of Rocklin and Roseville, all types of fireworks are illegal within remaining areas of Placer County and their use is punishable by law. Hi-Lo means go!

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Hi-Lo siren was installed in patrol units last year to be used during emergency evacuations. This sound is different than the traditional police siren — it will only be used in an area that is in danger because of a fire, chemical spill, flood or other hazard. If you hear the Hi-Lo siren, it’s time to evacuate. Learn more
