No surprise, it's been another busy month working for you and all of the citizens of Placer County! If you've been receiving my monthly updates for awhile, you know that almost every month, I've talked about fire insurance. This is one of the most crucial issues facing Placer County residents and almost daily I hear from someone that has received a non-renewal notice.

On February 18, I was grateful to be among leaders from across the state that were invited to meet with California State Insurance Commissioner Lara and attend his press conference where he announced new legislation, Assembly Bill 2367. AB 2367 would require insurance companies to offer coverage in areas where homeowners and their communities meet state standards of hardening their homes against fire. While this bill will still need to make it's way through the California Legislature and the state will need to develop the specific standards, I am pleased to see this as another step to help those of you that are doing your part to protect your homes and communities from wildfire.

Supervisor Gustsfson joined (from left) Town of Paradise Councilmember Michael Zuccolillo, Executive Director of United Policyholders Amy Bach, and fellow Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes on Feb. 18.

Placer County continues to be a leader in urging for additional protections and resources for our residents and businesses affected by the fire insurance crisis. I look forward to continuing to work with Commissioner Lara,  state legislators, and insurance companies to find more solutions for our community members.

On Feb. 19, I was honored to be invited to the Placer County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. These volunteers deserve deep thanks from all of us as they frequently work with our local law enforcement and other public safety officers to find and ensure the safety of our residents. For those volunteers that I was not personally able to thank at the dinner, I wanted to say thank you here as well. You are truly Placer County Heroes.

The Board of Supervisors will have a busy March with three Board meetings- two scheduled in Auburn and one in Kings Beach. Remember that Board of Supervisors meetings provide ample opportunities for public comment on issues of importance to you. While I always value the small group time at my Chat's and at MAC meetings, making a comment at a Board meeting is another opportunity to share your thoughts not only with me, but also my fellow Board members. Here is a LINK to the Board of Supervisors upcoming schedule so you are aware of when and where we're meeting.

And don't forget- for most Board meetings that take place in Auburn, there is a live, interactive option at the Placer County Tahoe City Admin office. We always accept public comment on any item live from there as well as in person in Auburn.
