Placer County District 5 Newsletter

cindy

My name is Cindy Gustafson and I was honored to be appointed as your District 5 Supervisor in late April. As a thirty-five year resident of Placer County, I have had the privilege of working, volunteering, and serving in other capacities with many of you already. For those of you who are meeting me for the first time, I wanted to share a little bit about myself and the District 5 team moving forward.

Prior to being appointed to the Board of Supervisors, I held roles in both the public and private sectors- including 26 years at the Tahoe City Public Utility District with eight of those years as the General Manager; and most recently, as the CEO of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and North Tahoe Chamber.

In addition to my professional career, my passion for public service has led me to hold a wide variety of volunteer, appointed, and elected positions requiring complex public policy strategies and engagement. Those have included the California Fish and Game Commission, the Marine Life Protection Act Blue Ribbon Task Force, the Placer County Transportation Agency, and many others.

I am honored and humbled to be your District 5 Supervisor and would not be able to fulfill the role without the help of many people. Thank you to community members, my fellow Supervisors, and county staff for all of the assistance in the past few weeks.

I especially want to thank Jocelyn Maddux who served for eight years as the District 5 Director for the west side of the county under Jennifer Montgomery. Jocelyn went above and beyond in ensuring a smooth transition for District 5 until I was able to hire a District Aide to serve the west side and I am grateful to her for all of her help.

I am happy to announce that Kelly McCaughna joined the District 5 team as a District Aide on June 3rd. Kelly comes to District 5 from the Boys and Girls Club of Placer County, where she worked for more than 11 years serving in a number of roles, most recently as Human Resources Coordinator and Executive Assistant. Kelly will focus on issues west of Donner Summit.

Lindsay Romack, who has served as a District 5 Aide since 2017, will continue on as District Director and focus on issues east of Donner Summit, while also increasing her involvement in district-wide issues.

I also want to thank my husband, Wally Auerbach, and our three sons for their tremendous support as I have transitioned to my new role serving the residents of Placer County.

In the six weeks since taking office, I have been meeting with constituents throughout the 5th District and coming up to speed with County departments and leadership.  My schedule to date has been in the Auburn Office Tuesdays-Thursdays, but have added Mondays and Fridays regularly, too.

I also know that the government works best when we go to the people in less formal settings to hear about issues and to that end, I have attended groups like the Auburn Meddlers, First Tuesday Breakfast Club in Tahoe, and breakfast in Foresthill.   I have also appreciated being included in special events like Memorial Day in Auburn, Foresthill, and Tahoe City; community clean-up days in Dutch Flat and Auburn, the Salmon Steelhead Festival in Auburn, the Auburn State of the Community Dinner, Auburn Symphony Gala, and the Placer County Sheriff’s Chaplaincy Event- just to name a few.  I look forward to attending more events and hope you will invite me to ones in your community. Reach out to me or my staff anytime- all of our emails are at the end of my newsletter.

In the coming months, I plan to connect with as many of you as possible so I can learn more about you and your visions, issues, and concerns for your neighborhood and community. As you know, District 5 is geographically vast and I look forward to serving all of the unique communities and residents of the District as well as Placer County as a whole.
