April 2017

Seeing the green grass and the first blooming flowers of Spring is a nice momentary distraction from the very real plight of some of the most vulnerable in our community -- our children. In an effort to  reaffirm the County's dedication to preventing child abuse and protecting our community's children, the Board of Supervisors has approved a Proclamation declaring April 2017 as "Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month".

Headshot

As part of this effort the County continues to support local organizations, such as KidsFirst, that are dedicated to ending child abuse through programs that strengthen families by giving them the tools and resources they need to care for their children. Child abuse and neglect most often occur when people find themselves in isolated or stressful situations with no clear resources to help them.

The most successful prevention programs rely upon community partnerships involving public agencies, schools, faith-based groups, law enforcement and the business community. I encourage you, as a member of this community, to get involved in supporting this very important campaign of awareness.

Showing your support is as easy as wearing the color blue, a blue ribbon or displaying a blue pinwheel in the month of April. You can also participate in Wear Blue Day on April 7th.  For information on how you can help, visit the KidsFirst website.

Thank you.
