Kings Beach Core Improvement Project Update: 10/14/16

Kings Beach Core Improvement Project Update

Kings Beach road paving

Gateway to the Core Phase

With stormy weather arriving, our construction crews are in the final steps to complete the improvements along the highway in Kings Beach. Below are the work activities that are scheduled for the next two weeks:

· Paving at the east end of the project was completed Oct. 13 and marks a milestone: the completion of paving on state Route 28  and a continuous stretch of new pavement on from the Safeway parking lot to east of Beaver Street. Temporary pavement markings for the newly paved section of state Route 28 will be applied in preparation for the storm forecast for Friday and the weekend. Grinding for recessed permanent striping will be performed at night during the week of Oct. 17, and permanent thermoplastic striping will be performed during the daytime that same week.

·  At the east end of the project, curb/gutter/sidewalk and concrete pavement for bus stop pullouts and street parking stalls on the north side of state Route 28 are now complete.  Street lights in this area will be installed next week.

·  At the west end of the project, a new traffic signal pole has been installed, and final adjustments to the traffic signals and pedestrian crossings should be completed by the end of next week.

·  In the grid, watch for crews adjusting manhole covers to match new pavement completed earlier in the season. This work will be done next week, Monday through Friday, on Dolly Varden Avenue, Rainbow Avenue, Fox Street and Beaver Street.

·  Roadside signs on state Route 28 and the grid will be installed over the next two weeks.

·  Daytime underground storm drain and curb and gutter work continues on Chipmunk Street north of state Route 28, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Chipmunk Street north will be closed intermittently to through traffic between state Route 28 and Minnow for approximately another two weeks; detour signage will remain in place and will guide local traffic around the work zone via Fox and Minnow streets. Curb and gutter work on Minnow has been completed, with shoulder patch paving to follow in the next two weeks.

·  Grading and paving for remaining driveway work will be done over the next two weeks.

·  Saturday work at the east end, including Chipmunk north, is anticipated Oct. 22.

We greatly appreciate your patience while the crews are completing the installation of the new streetscape through Kings Beach.
