Kings Beach Core Improvement Project Update: 10/6/16

Kings Beach Core Improvement Project Update

Kings Beach roundabout

Gateway to the Core Phase

State Route 28 work

With last week’s completion of paving at the west end of the project, the focus this week has shifted to curb/gutter/sidewalk and concrete pavement for bus stop pullouts and street parking stalls on the north side of state Route 28, at the east end of the project.

Once curb, gutter and concrete pavement is completed this week, roadway reconstruction (grinding and paving) at the east end will begin early Monday morning (Oct. 10).  During the week of Oct. 10, grinding will be performed during the day between the Char Pit and Beaver Street on Monday and Tuesday, and paving will take place during the day on Wednesday and Thursday.

During grinding and paving, lanes will be temporarily shifted on state Route 28 through the work zone. One-way alternating traffic control through the work zone will be in place intermittently, however two lanes of traffic (one lane in each direction) will be open by 3 p.m. each day. Chipmunk south will be closed during this work, and a detour will be in place via Coon Street and Brockway Vista. Once completed, the new pavement on state Route 28 will extend from in front of the Char Pit to Beaver Street.

Kings Beach curb work

Chipmunk Street

Daytime underground storm drain and curb and gutter work will continue on Chipmunk Street north of state Route 28, between 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Chipmunk Street north will be closed intermittently to through traffic between state Route 28 and Minnow for approximately another three weeks. Detour signage will remain in place and will guide local traffic around the work zone via Fox and Minnow streets. Curb and gutter work on Minnow is underway and will continue for approximately one week.

Saturday work at the east end, including Chipmunk north, will continue during the daytime this weekend and possibly next weekend, as well.

Overlay paving on Salmon and Chipmunk and the remaining speed humps on Rainbow and Fox Streets will be done during the middle of October.

State Routes 267 and 28

At the west end of the project, lane striping with temporary paint was performed today on state Route 28 (between the eastern Safeway parking lot entrance and Secline Street), and state Route 267 (between state Route 28 and the North Tahoe Fire Station). Grinding for recessed permanent striping will be performed at night during the week of Oct. 17, and permanent striping will be performed during the daytime that same week.

We appreciate all your patience during this busy construction time and want to remind you that we are pushing hard to be complete all the major highway items this construction season.  Please drive safely in and around the construction zone.
