Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project update

Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project update

Although the spring weather has been a bit wet and unpredictable, the final season of the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project construction is ramping up.  Below are a few details we have to share.

Core of the Core Phase

Our contractor, Q & D, has been on the highway the last couple of weeks and nearing completion of raising manhole lids along the highway. Q & D is also in the process of installing curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements along Salmon Avenue near the post office and the health clinic. Please take care in traveling in this area for the next couple of weeks. The Salmon parking lot next to the post office will also be completed and ready for full use in the near future. Q & D has several other efforts beginning in the next two weeks. First, the curb, gutter and sidewalks along the west side of Secline are scheduled to begin next week. Secondly, the work on the Christmas tree lot is scheduled to begin on May 16, 2016. Lastly, Q & D will be completing a water quality basin off of Deer/Rainbow next to the new Rainbow parking lot beginning on May 16, 2016.  These work tasks are subject to change based on the weather.

Gateway to the Core Phase

The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved a construction contract on April 19, 2016 for Disney Construction for this phase of work.  The work area is the two ends of town which will extend streetscape/water quality improvements to Highway 267 on the west and to Lower Chipmunk Street to the east. We anticipate Disney will begin mobilizing the week of May 16, 2016, and start with installation of water pollution control work and temporary traffic control measures. Next, look for trenching for underground storm drain work to start simultaneously at both the east and west ends of the project. Much of this underground work in the intersection of 28/267 will be performed at night to minimize impacts to traffic in the intersection. The underground work along Highway 28 just west of Chipmunk Street will be performed during the daytime.

Construction is anticipated to be complete in one season. The contractor is still in the process of developing a complete construction schedule. Once we receive this, we will share more schedule details with you through these email notices.

Other Projects in the Area

The North Tahoe Public Utility District has a waterline replacement project underway on Dolly Varden from State Route 267 to just east of Fox Street. Work will begin today weather permitting. Questions regarding the details of this project should be directed to North Tahoe Public Utility District at 530-546-4212.

Major coordination efforts are ongoing to provide separation in these construction activities.  Your patience and consideration is greatly appreciated during these busy times along the roadways. County staff are working diligently to keep directly impacted property/business owners aware of any potential impacts of this construction.
