The City of Palo Alto launched an update to the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (S/CAP) earlier this year to help meet our City’s sustainability goals, including our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2030. City staff proposed goals and key actions in seven areas: Energy, Mobility, Electric Vehicles, Water, Climate Adaptation and Sea Level Rise, Natural Environment, and Zero Waste. In September 2020, the City of Palo Alto launched a webinar series to highlight various topics in the 2020 Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (S/CAP).

Take Action without Leaving your House

The modern electric home: Cleaner, safer, better

Ready to live in a home that’s more comfortable and healthier for your family and the planet?

California buildings—and this includes homes—are responsible for more than a quarter of all statewide greenhouse gas emissions. Emissions from gas heating and gas cooking in a home are roughly equivalent to the emissions from driving a gasoline car. Simply put, we can’t meet our climate goals without addressing emissions from our buildings.

By introducing clean electric appliances into our lives, we can avoid greenhouse gas emissions, and make our homes healthier. Better for you. Better for the planet.

“The Switch is On” is a project of the Building Decarbonization Coalition in partnership with City of Palo Alto Utilities and other agencies.
