This month we’re excited about our Board of Directors approving a new community to join our JPA, fun and local professional sports teams, new heat pump water heater incentives, and upcoming events!

In September 2023, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors invited Ava staff to present to the Board on joining Ava’s Joint Powers Authority.
Supervisor Robert Rickmann championed this effort given his experience with Ava as Tracy’s former Mayor.
The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted in favor of joining the Ava Community Energy Joint Powers Authority (JPA) by passing an ordinance and resolution on April 9 of this year. Following that vote, our staff conducted quantitative analysis to evaluate the JPA membership request.
At the Ava Board of Directors meeting in July, our Board voted unanimously to approve San Joaquin County as members of our JPA. Next, Ava will submit an implementation plan to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for certification. Pending CPUC approval, service is scheduled to begin in 2026.

This past spring we added the Oakland Ballers baseball team to our collection of Ava-sponsored local professional sports teams.
Cheering for local sports teams brings our community together to root for a common goal and gives us an opportunity to get out and meet our customers. Here’s a roundup of our other professional and semi-pro local teams that Ava sponsors (non-inclusive of the numerous local little leagues and soccer clubs that have been funded through Community Sponsorships).
Oakland Ballers - Oakland’s new minor league baseball team and member of the Pioneer League (an MLB Partner League). The Ballers are playing their inaugural season (May 21st through September 8th) at Oakland’s historic Raimondi Park.
Oakland Roots - Founded in 2018, the Oakland Roots Men’s Soccer Club plays in the USL Championship League at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward. Their season runs from March 9th through October 26th.
Oakland Soul - In 2022 the Oakland Roots formed a sister-team in the Oakland Soul, who play in the USL W League at Laney College in Oakland. Their 2024 season just ended in the first round of the playoffs.
Pleasanton RAGE - The Pleasanton RAGE Girls Soccer Club provides soccer opportunities for all ages and competitive levels. Ava sponsors the RAGE team that plays in the USL W League at the Stanford Medicine Sports Complex in Pleasanton.
