On October 24, 2023, East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) became Ava Community Energy (Ava).
This name change is part of a larger brand refresh for the agency. Our new name, and dynamic new look and feel, are designed to help welcome our new constituents from outside the East Bay, and to help Ava better communicate the advantages of decarbonization to all our customers.
Over the last few years EBCE has grown to serve customers outside of Alameda County, and as we begin service in Stockton and Lathrop in 2025, this will be even more true. Through research, it became clear that not everyone in our service territory identifies as belonging to the “East Bay.” We want all community members to feel included, so we have evolved our name to better signal that we’re for all our constituents.
The name Ava is short, easy to say, and memorable. And while it is not an acronym, it is inspired by the fact that we serve Alameda County and the Valley.
Your service and rates are not changing. Your benefits will continue to increase, however, as Ava Community Energy has exciting new programs–including the largest e-bike lending and incentive program in California–coming your way soon.

This credit will put ~$6 million back in the pockets of East Bay and Valley households. Customers do not need to take any action, the credit will automatically be placed on bills.
In November-December 2023 over 110,000 Ava Community Energy (Ava) customers who are on an income-qualifying rate (CARE and/or FERA) will automatically receive a one-time $50 bill credit on the Ava portion of their PG&E bill, courtesy of Ava.
This is one way that Ava helps our community. Our Board of Directors, which is composed of an Alameda County Supervisor and a City Council member or Mayor from each jurisdiction we serve, voted to include these bill credits as part of our annual budget.
