A new way to find incentives, new rates for Bright Choice and Renewable 100 are live, plus Flex Alerts, cooling centers, and another opportunity to win an induction cooktop! |
|
There are many incentives out there for home energy efficiency upgrades, solar and storage, electric vehicles, electric bicycles, and more. It can be exhausting and confusing to wade through the sea of incentives and figure out which ones apply to you.
EBCE has launched a new incentive finder to help you navigate the process and find relevant national, state, local, and EBCE-specific incentives for energy efficiency and electrification. If you’re planning a home energy efficiency upgrade or you have your eye on that hot, new electric vehicle, this could be for you!

In June, the EBCE Board of Directors approved new rates for Bright Choice and Renewable 100 service plans.
The new rates for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 are live as of July 1, 2023.
Most EBCE customers are on Bright Choice, which was made up of 49.2% eligible renewables in 2022. Bright Choice is now 5% cheaper (previously 3% cheaper) than PG&E’s standard rates.
Renewable 100 electricity is comprised of 100% solar and wind energy generated in California. The Renewable 100 premium has been lowered from ¾ of a cent more per kilowatt-hour than PG&E’s standard rates to ¼ of a cent more per kilowatt-hour, lowering the average residential premium from $4 per month to $1 per month.

Flex Alerts are issued by the California Independent Systems Operator (CAISO) as a voluntary call for consumers to conserve electricity when the electricity grid is under stress and there is a predicted shortage of energy supply. These shortages can occur as a result of generation or transmission outages, or from persistent hot temperatures.
When consumers reduce electricity consumption at these critical times, it can prevent more dire emergency measures and consequences like possible power outages. Flex Alerts are often issued for “peak” demand times, like 4pm-9pm or 3pm-10pm on a given day. On Flex Alert days it is helpful to do electricity-intensive activities before the Flex Alert time period. You can pre-cool your home, use major appliances including washers, dryers, and dishwashers early in the day, and adjust blinds and drapes to cover windows and keep the heat out. During the Flex Alert, try setting your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher (if health permits), avoid using major appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off all unnecessary lights.
To learn more about Flex Alerts and to sign up for emergency notifications, visit the CAISO Flex Alert website.
EBCE received the Top Project of the Year Award in the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program for our Resilient Municipal Critical Facilities Program. This accolade recognizes EBCE as an exemplary leader making strides in energy or environmental management.
The Resilient Municipal Critical Facilities Program will bring reliable power to 30 “critical facilities” that provide fire, safety, and emergency operations to communities. By using onsite solar and batteries, facilities can operate through outages without the risk of running out of fuel for diesel or gas generators. Plus the solar and batteries help pay for themselves when the grid is running, by cutting utility bills.
